Black Wednesday – Beware of DUI Checkpoints

Black Wednesday? Blackout Wednesday? Biggest Bar Night of the Year? Whatever you choose to call the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, it has infamously become one of the biggest drinking nights of the year.  This new age event isn’t just revered by Generation-Y and Millennials alike, but also our local police departments as well.

Police Departments state wide have declared that they intend to raise their vigilance and “crack-down” on drunk drivers through instituting various DUI checkpoints throughout the state.  In certain parts of Illinois, police departments can require drivers suspected of drunk driving to administer a blood test or to a Breathalyzer through issuance of a warrant.

However, individuals could avoid these unfortunate situations if they plan their holiday festivities accordingly.  If one seeks to indulge over a few alcoholic beverages this holiday weekend, do yourself and the general public a favor and leave your vehicle at home.

Taking public transportation, cabs, or Ubers is a safer alternative. Yes, it may cost you more money at the end of the weekend but it’s better than spending $10,000 on attorney costs and court fees, which is the average going rate for first time DUI offenders these days.  With that being said, if you should find yourself under arrest for DUI, or for any other traffic violation or crime, contact us at LauraLaw and we will be happy to help you navigate the court process.  In the meantime, Happy Holidays and have fun!
