Winter overnight parking ban began yesterday

If you have gotten used to parking on the same street overnight in Chicago, now might be a good time to make sure you are still allowed to park on that street. The Chicago Red Eye reports that on Monday, the City of Chicago towed more than 200 cars that were violating the City’s winter overnight parking ban. The ban started this morning and runs until March 31. Molly Poppe, a spokeswoman for the City’s Streets and Sanitation Department, told Red Eye in an email that the ban is designed to “prevent the build-up of snow along main routes, which reduces traffic flow and inhibits snow removal equipment.” Signs are posted on all streets where the ban has gone into effect, so make sure you look for a sign before you park.
