Your Tickets Won’t Go Away, but your Penalties for Nonpayment Might!

Have you been putting off paying old parking tickets?  Have you left your red light tickets, hoping they would just go away?  Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news:  the bad news is that your unpaid tickets won’t just go away; but, the good news is that starting today (November 15, 2015) and going through to the end of the year (December 31, 2015), you may be able to pay off your overdue fines without any added penalties or interest.  Thanks to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s new Debt Relief Amnesty Program, if you received a qualifying ticket before January 1, 2012, you can pay the original fine, no questions asked.

Tickets that are eligible for the program include red light tickets, parking tickets, and building code violations from before 2012.  However, if you are currently enrolled in a payment plan with the city you are ineligible for the program.

It is important to note that paying your fines is extremely important.  Failure to pay can not only result in added fees, fines, and interest, but can also result in the suspension or loss of your driving privileges, sometimes without you knowing it.  In order to successfully navigate the consequences that might be associated with nonpayment of your tickets, contact us here at LauraLaw, and one of our experienced attorneys will help you through the process.
