#TBT How NOT To Call 911

We’ve seen some ridiculous arrest stories, but this one certainly takes the cake! For Throwback Thursday we decided to share this video from 2011 that we just came across today. In the video, a 21 year-old was looking for legal advice on the repercussions of growing marijuana. He takes his question to a 911 dispatcher to whom he confesses growing marijuana and asks, “how much trouble can you get in for one plant?” Comically – and not surprisingly -, this resulted in the man being arrested for possession of marijuana! I don’t think we even need to address how unbelievably stupid it is to call 911 and confess to committing a crime, but there are a number of other things wrong with calling 911 when there is no emergency. There are a limited number of 911 dispatchers to answer calls and calling to waste time could be delaying someone from getting aid during a real emergency. In an extreme circumstance, this could mean the difference between life and death for someone.

Additionally, we would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that ALL 911 calls are recorded and traced! If for no other reason other than your own benefit, DO NOT call 911 for no reason, you are being monitored.

While we can all enjoy a good laugh at the stupidity of this person, we can’t forget how serious it is to call 911 unnecessarily. If you have a legal question and are NOT in an emergency state, please don’t call 911, contact us here at LauraLaw and we will assist you to the best of our abilities.
