Illinois Supreme Court – ISBA Quick Takes

The Supreme Court of Illinois released several written opinions today from a wide variety of cases on their docket.  Among those cases were two that involved issues in criminal law.  People v. Timmsen took on the question of whether a driver making a U-turn 50 feet in front of a DUI Roadblock was sufficiently reasonable grounds to stop that driver.  Spoiler Alert:  it was.  Then, in People v. Burns, the Court ruled on the issue of whether a drug dog sniff in the landing of a multi-unit apartment building was permissible under the 4th Amendment.  We’ll let you read that one to find out how it ended.  You can find excellent synopses of these cases from our friends over at the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) if you’re interested.
