Fun Friday Frolic!

Another busy week, capped by a busy Friday, has led us to this 7:00 p.m. Fun Friday Frolic.  Somewhere between driving all over Cook County for court and meeting with law clerk applicants and new clients in the office, we here at LauraLaw still found time to keep up with trending stories from our social networks.  Of particular interest to this office was the story of Tara Monroe, a.k.a. “Barbie Jeep Girl.”  If you haven’t read the stories, the industrial engineering junior at Texas State had her driver’s license suspended after she refused to submit to a breathalyzer test when she was pulled over on her way home from a concert (which is also a consequence of refusing to blow in Illinois, but in our opinion, is usually a better alternative to giving the state evidence that could end up convicting you).  Unwilling to ride a bicycle in the heat of a Texas summer, “Barbie Jeep Girl” reached into her own toy vault to find – you guessed it – a motorized Barbie Jeep as her new form of transportation.  The children’s toy is not street legal, and does not require a license to be driven.  As a result, Ms. Monroe has been spotted throughout campus on her pink Barbie-brand battery-powered Jeep.  While the use of this children’s toy may be a clever (if legal) way for Ms. Monroe to get around without a license, she better be careful not to drive it home after a night of drinking.  If you will remember our story about BUI (BIKING under the influence), it may be possible to get a DUI while taking unconventional transportation.  If you have lost your license, have been arrested for DUI, or have any other traffic or criminal matter in Cook County, please contact our team of experienced lawyers here at LauraLaw before you bust out your Power Wheels and go for a joy ride.  Enjoy your long weekend, be safe, and we’ll see you on Tuesday!  Happy Labor Day!
